1 World x 1 Love x 1 Mic…by Dallas Penn
It is often the artists from the most disenfranchised, impoverished nations that can speak to the true nature of Hip-Hop. To combine all music, art, culture and people into one is the essence of Hip-Hop. With the use of the drum and the voice. A few weeks ago when J.Period was working on the Bring Your Own Blogger BBQ mixtapes he told me of this project to combine the sound of K’Naan with some of the world’s most respected musical messengers. K’Naan hails from Mogadishu, Somalia. A region that has been embroiled in violent conflict for the past two decades. So many rappers fantasize about their communities as warzones but few have survived in one and even less speak of the peace, justice and love that our world needs right now. With this idea in mind J.Period and K’Naan began crafting this project. A mashup mixtape with music honoring the great FELA KUTI, BOB DYLAN and BOB MARLEY. The project sounded too monumental from the outset. I’m glad J.Period was able to pull it off. The full 3-part project is set to be released on September 1st over at J.Period’s website. Here’s a preview of what J.Period is calling ‘The Messengers’ featuring K’Naan in tribute to FELA KUTI, BOB DYLAN and BOB MARLEY.

Altimet's Follow The Leader Part 7.. i think
If You Aint Heard about Altimet's Follow The Leader Mixtape Series, ur obviously on something
Altimet is still rockin’ his Follow The Leader tour, where he spreads some love to the websites he fancies with free tracks, and this week it’s JunkOnline’s turn to let the love trickle down to the people (man! we’re such hot shit, sometimes even we get the chills). You can download his ‘The Way U Move’ with Young Stunna for FREE by clicking on the link below.
Words from the man himself: “I'm a big fan of Ryan Leslie, and this tune is one of my all time favourites from R Les. So, you know I had to rock over this, and Stunna came along for the ride. Enjoy!”

MTV's "Who is The Hottest MC in The Game" is Back
The "Hottest MCs in the Game" is back! It's highly regarded, extremely controversial and bolder than ever. We're proud to announce that starting next Monday (August 17), we'll begin to reveal our list of hip-hop's top 10 kings of 2009 on MTVNews.com. This one is going to be a doozy!
In 2009, we want you to put up and definitely not shut up. Let your frustrations or your props be heard. Each time we reveal another pick on our list, comment on it. Send e-mails, send video — we're going to put lots of it out there. And today, blast off! We want you to start sending in your lists — but be sure you're talking about the Hottest MC right now, not of all time (we already gave Jay-Z that trophy a couple of years back). There's a poll below with names of certain selected MCs: All you have to pick the name you feel is the hottest right now. The results will be tabulated. So get to it!
